KAFC was founded in 1935 and after toiling in many different
pitches down through the years the club finally found its home in the
picturesque setting of Charles Fort in 1985. The club has come a long way since
both on & off the field. We now proudly boast a fantastic new sand based
(second) pitch. The club has invested heavily in the past 5
years in sanding, over seeding, weeding and feeding. The results of this are evident in two lush
green pitches playable most weekends and the envy of other clubs in Cork and
further afield. Apart from club, the
pitches are used by Kinsale Community School and local primary schools as well as
the local Community Games group.
We have a thriving underage section since 1998 currently catering
for over 400 children. Having started modestly in the West Cork League the
underage boys section has expanded massively and is now affiliated to the
Cork Schoolboys League and Cork Youth League. The girls are a more recent addition having started 14 years ago and now
have an academy as well as teams up to U17 affiliated to the Cork Women and
School Girls Soccer League. In 2019 we fielded
a senior womens team for the first time.
The underage section is supported by a voluntary coaching staff of
over 40 coaches and the club supports all these coaches in achieving FAI
coaching qualifications and child welfare courses.
In October 2019 we organized an FAI PDP2
course in Kinsale where 12 more underage coaches achieved further FAI
qualifications over 2 weekends.
The underage section also organizes a soccer
summer camp which is staffed by FAI coaches and is recognized as one of the
best in Cork. In addition, the underage
section organizes family fun days to ensure that families and the wider
community feel involved in the club.
We pride ourselves on turning no child away and on giving every
child the opportunity to participate in sport. We commit up to 5% of our fundraising to a “Fund” to ensure that those
who cannot afford registration fees, match fees, gear etc. can participate.
